The November election blitz is on and the crazy campaign commercials are slowly rolling out. Charlotte benefits from being near the North Carolina / South Carolina border so our viewing area has the privilege of getting to know state and federal candidates from both states.

My favorites are two South Carolinian gentlemen running for congress. These guys are using border security to build the rickety base to their weak platform and it’s just a pathetic scene.

The commercials show photos of Latino immigrants climbing over fences juxtaposed with words like “keeping your family safe” or “keeping our economy strong”. The candidates also mention that they’ve “been working hard for years”. The target demographic is obviously the small town, poor, blue-collar type.

I didn’t major in economics but wouldn’t it cost way more money to build the Great Wall of America and track down the majority of illegals to deport them?

It seems that they aren’t even trying to make a valid point…they are simply trying nab their seats in D.C. and create a fear that Mexicans are going to break into our houses, take our children and take our jobs.

Border Security is a godsend for a racist southern bigot. They finally have an excuse to target a specific race and elect an official that promises to “kick them out”. This discussion never diminished in small-sheltered-town America but is just now coming back to politics. It reminds me of the “bad guy” politician in O Brother Where Art Thou.

I would prefer to focus on an issue that doesn’t involve discrimation that may actually make a difference in 10 years.
